Answered prayers!

And here she is! Living proof of answered prayer. Meet Bessy, our family milk cow. We just got her day before yesterday. She is a 6 year old Jersey milk cow. She has the sweetest personality. She loves to be petted and scratched under the chin.
She isn't in milk right now, but Lord willing we will have plenty of milk and a calf next year. Did you know it takes 9 months gestation for a cow?
I can hardly wait until we are having fresh milk, making butter and cheese, yogurt, sour cream and of course ice cream! This will really cut down on the grocery bill.
Today I must finish making tomato sauce. Our tomatoes got off to a slow start, but boy are they keeping me busy now! Next will be the zucchini relish, freezing peppers, drying celery leaves and basil and then on to the apples.
When canning season is finished I will take a picture of my pantry shelves to show all the pretty jars of food that we have put up for winter.
Have a great day!

I am new to your sight coming from comments on Homeliving. I so enjoy hearing about your homestead. We do not have much land but do all we can on it. I read your earlier post about working towards an apartment for your parents to be living on the land too. That is so wonderful.
Where I grew up nearly every house had one or both parents living in a back apartment or such and it made for a good mix in the neighborhood. Childrren learned and enjoyed and benefited from all the different ideas of the many cultures and ages. It was a blessed time we all had growing up in thei atmosphere. I hope the new cow works out better than that frisky goat did! :-) Jody

Thanks for the comments Jody! We don't have much land here either. It is just under 3 acres, but we make the most of what we have. And Bessy is working out so much better than that silly goat we had! Of course we aren't milking her yet, but her personality is very friendly and she acts more like a dog than a cow. :)
